Gamil Design Introduces its New Brand: Gamila

Raleigh, NC - Gamil Design, a locally-based graphic and product design firm, has recently established its own brand, named “Gamila” (pronounced Ga-meel-ah), to create “designs that make you smile.”

“We work day-to-day with brands all over the world,” says founder Aly Khalifa. “ We create their image, design their products, and manage their identity. But as much as we love developing company brands, it’s not the same as launching our own. We formed Gamila as an experimental tool to further develop our skills as well as promote ourselves.”

“Our clients often remark that we work in many different disciplines, and we truly feel diversity has been our strength. Gamila gives us the ability to further expand our market know-how by introducing products to new target markets.” Khalifa believes this will give Gamil Design vital insight into emerging markets, thus making them a valuable resource to new brands. “Gamil and Gamila will benefit from each other, in that what we’ll learn from one will translate to success for both. Our company and clients will all gain from the experiences, and that is what’s really getting us excited.”

There’s another side to the Gamila strategy. From their experience in industrial design, certain solutions have just “popped up” that they can now capitalize upon. “As an example,” says Khalifa, “after having designed sports bag after sports bag, we started to feel pretty limited with the very few and inadequate buckle options we have. The next thing we know, we’ve created a new buckle design.”

Such innovative thinking has led Gamila to release two key products this year. The first is Gamila’s recently patented MadeLikeMom infant nurser system, which is designed to give infants a far more ergonomic and dynamic alternative than current products.

The second Gamila product to be released this year is “The Teastick.” This upscale alternative to the standard teaballs and other tea infusers was inspired by conversations with The Third Place (a local coffee and tea house). Gamila designed the product, branding, packaging, marketing and sales strategies, and coordinated all manufacturing. It will be launched in early December through specialty gourmet and gift stores as well as local tea and coffee houses.

The MadeLikeMom technology is currently under negotiation for licensing with several leading brands of infant nursers. “The Teastick” introduction will be celebrated with a “Gamila Tea Party” on First Friday, December 7th, in Gamil Design’s office and gallery space.
